OUR FOUNDERS
KEVIN ESTRADA, CO-FOUNDER
Kevin Estrada is a professional guide and owner of Sturgeon Slayers, Catch~Record~Release, with a wealth of knowledge in the fishing industry. His passion & dedication to protect the environment for wild fish is highly recognized globally.
After enjoying a strong professional hockey career, Kevin found himself back on his home waters, the mighty Fraser River. Since then, Kevin has dedicated his time to developing Sturgeon Slayers - a sustainable conservation business - into one of the worlds premier sturgeon fishing operations. He also went on to win King Fishers on National Geographic and has been featured on almost every major network including BBC Earth & Discovery Channel.
Kevin is a director with the Fraser Valley Angling Guides Association and previously sat on the Board with the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society. He brought the first ever certified bill to the House of Commons which called for selective fishing practices to be implemented in Canada. His leadership significantly increased awareness on the pre historic species.
In extension to his passion for Sturgeon guiding, Kevin helped start the Ladd Foundation Sturgeon Charity Event with former NHL teammate Andrew Ladd. Some of the top NHL players attend, with guests from around the world, to raise money for various causes with partial proceeds going back to support Sturgeon.
In 2021, Kevin garnered International news as he guided his guests to the largest sturgeon ever on rod and reel. The fish was tagged and released.
WAYNE IZUMI, CO-FOUNDER
Wayne Izumi is a successful businessman, entrepreneur, and a well-respected member of the community. His accomplishments within the fishing and agriculture industry are far reaching and unmatched – namely his instrumental involvement in the management buyout of Stoller Canada Ltd. As president and principle shareholder, he then developed the Canadian company into a major provider of secondary and micronutrient products in the Canadian Agricultural market.
In addition, Wayne has won dozens of fishing tournaments over the last two decades. He was back-to-back winner of the Canadian Open, in 1992 and 1993 as well as winning the first Ontario Place Open in 2004.
Wayne is also President of Izumi Outdoors Inc. - a 30 year old multi-media company which produces the ‘Bob Izumi Real Fishing Show’ & magazine and most recently, ‘Instill The Catch’ which features his daughter Mariko Izumi, also a well recognized fishing enthusiast.
If that wasn’t enough, Wayne and his brother Bob started the nonprofit organization Fishing Forever in 2000 that has raised over 1.7 million for both fishing conservation projects in Ontario and the Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire Fishing Days Program.
